Surveillance cameras from nearby homes recorded the crime, which occurred at about 2:40 a.m. on the 4200 block of Lansing St. In the video, the thief is shown traveling in a car eastbound on Lansing Street. He initially passed the white Chevy van before stopping farther down the block and shifting his car into reverse. The crook then stopped next to the van, exited his car and broke into the van through a side cargo door. The thief removed tools from the van and placed them in his car, before fleeing the area.

Police described the thief as white with a bushy goatee beard, a gray hoodie and blue jeans. His car was described as a Mitsubishi with a dent in the right rear quarter-panel and missing hubcaps.
